Just An Opinion
When choosing blogs to link I have two things that I base my decisions on. In no particular degree of importance these are grammar and content. Now since content is pretty much self explanatory I’ll skip explaining about it and just move on to grammar.
Oftentimes, I am very obsessive when it comes to the former. Unwillingly, I find myself cringing when I spot grammatical errors that are too obvious to be missed. Don’t get me wrong, I know I make mistakes, too. I just get peeved when I see entries that use both the present and past tense in the same sentence/paragraph/anecdote/whatever (in a manner that’s just really, really, really unacceptable). You know what I mean, right? I’d post an example but I can’t really find that one particular article I have in mind right now.
Anyway, another mistake I often find is in the use of prepositions. In, on, and at are not interchangeable. I’m pretty sure they can be defined by a dictionary or a grammar book. So, yeah. Now that that’s out of the bag I suppose I can live a bit more peacefully. Please don’t hate me for this, by the way. I’m merely stating what I’m pretty sure you’re aware of, too.
Is This The Last Time?
After three days and three nights of no electricity, the only company that provides power in the entirety of Metro Manila finally decided to fix the problem. I hope this is the last time this happens because really, it’s not fair to those of us who actually pay for the electricity we use (and more?).
Anyway, before I say all sorts of negative things about the service the above mentioned company gives, let me move on to a lighter topic. I started using the exercise machine my father bought weeks – err, months? – ago. My sister says it’s called an elliptical (whatever the heck that means). It’s very effective, I think. I was seriously sweating buckets. LOL. I hope I can keep it up though.
Yeah, so I guess that’s it for now. I have an hour-long class to attend in a few hours (a waste of precious time, if you ask me) so I gotta get ready. Signing off!
Please Do Stop The Music
Lately I’ve been hearing a lot of less-than-appetizing Filipino versions of today’s top American hits. I’m sorry but the whole idea is just really, really annoying. Hate me if you must – after all this is my second post on complaining about what our pop culture has to offer – but I just can’t help it. So please, DO stop the music. Or create some new ones, either one will do.
A Plea to The Filipino Entertainment Industry
Dear Mr./Ms./Mrs. Big Boss:
I am writing you today to express my concern for what we know to be the Filipino entertainment industry. As a consumer (and potential media practitioner) I believe it is my duty to inform you that your ideas are almost nothing short of stale. Every plot line has been used, every character has been seen somewhere else, everything just lacks a touch of originality altogether.
Now while I do understand the concept of inspiration, it becomes a completely different thing when you release a movie or television program that has elements 99% similar to that of another country’s. Why not base your ideas on what foreign entertainment has to offer and twist it to make it fresh?
I have faith that there is still hope for this situation. From what I have seen in my 20 years of existence, Filipinos possess a talent that can set us apart from everybody else. All you have to do is make the discovery and actually let your employees use it.
I hope you understand my intentions in writing this letter. I sincerely hope that you make the effort to test your pool of talents to come up with something new… and soon. Thank you for your time in reading this.
Sincerely,
MIAR
Okay, so I don’t mean anything personal with this blog entry. I just thought I should share my opinion on what the entertainment industry is turning into. I hope no one takes this the wrong way. It’s all in good fun and it’s not aimed at anyone specifically. If you’re mature enough, you would understand that this was done in humor and nothing more. Peace and love, everybody!
